Up, up and away in the 6abc ZooBalloon

The most popular flight in Philadelphia makes its triumphant return with the launch of a new season, and more opportunities to soar.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 31, 2015) – The new 6abc ZooBalloon was installed at Philadelphia Zoo today, marking its return for the 2015 season. This iconic piece of the Philadelphia skyline will soar 400 feet in the air once again, overlooking giraffes, zebras and more, as passengers take in one-of-a-kind views of Fairmount Park and Center City.
After the balloon envelope suffered irreparable damage due to severe weather, the Zoo and 6abc worked to obtain a brand new balloon in response to the overwhelming public support and heartfelt requests from the community.
“Since its launch in June 2002, the 6abc ZooBalloon has been a staple in the Zoo visitor experience,” says Vikram H. Dewan, Philadelphia Zoo President and CEO. “It’s a part of their lasting memories, and we are proud to bring back an attraction that has meant so much too so many.”
“It’s been a rough winter, so seeing the 6abc Zooballoon grace the skyline will be a welcome sight that spring is finally here,” says President & General Manager of 6abc, Bernie Prazenica.  “This balloon is a symbol of our deep partnership with the Zoo - one of the truly iconic attractions in our great city.”
Voyages last approximately ten minutes and cost $12 per person or $40 for a family 4-pack. Children under two ride for free and Family Deluxe and Contributor members pay $8 per ride. The ZooBalloon flies only when weather conditions permit a safe ride for passengers. Visit to see if the balloon is flying on a given day or to purchase tickets.
