Fourth Annual Global Conservation Gala
Celebrating the Year of the Big Cat
The 2013 Global Conservation Gala will introduce the next phase of the Transformation Plan—which includes a trail system for the big cats while once again setting the tone for the upcoming year of conservation action on site, in the community and abroad with the theme “Year of the Big Cat.” This is truly the single most important fundraising event of the year for the Philadelphia Zoo, as the Zoo commits to a fourth year of effecting positive change in the natural world. Each year, through the festive presentation of three awards, this fundraiser gives the Zoo an opportunity to make a significant impact on the preservation of wildlife locally and around the globe.
Tickets are no longer available to this event. If you would like to make a donation to the Global Conservation Gala, please call (215)243-5351 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Over the last three years, through designated multi-year commitments of financial support, Philadelphia Zoo has transitioned conservation efforts to allow for a major impact on animals and nature in a way not done before.
In 2010, the Zoo helped to change a trajectory away from extinction for Brazil's golden lion tamarins.
In 2011, the Zoo began work with a non-government organization in Sumatra to address the plight of orangutans and the palm oil crisis. Without this project, this magnificent ape could become extinct by the year 2025.
In 2012, the Zoo focused on the impact of the next generation of conservation stewards by announcing a $1,000,000 scholarship program in partnership with 10 local colleges and universities. This will make it possible for high performing students from economically challenged areas participating in the Zoo Champions for Restoring Endangered Wildlife (Zoo CREW) program to attend college and pursue careers in the sciences and conservation, extending their impact on wildlife to a lifetime.
In 2013, Philadelphia Zoo will commit to working with a partner in conservation to address the major impacts on big cats in the wild. The Zoo understands the importance of these species and the great threat to their wellbeing and sustainability.
