Summer Ale Festival 2017 FAQ

What is Summer Ale Festival?

Summer Ale Festival (SAF) is a craft beer festival highlighting local breweries. There are 70+ beer stations with two styles of beer at each and food trucks vending throughout the Zoo. Many of the Zoo’s first-class animal exhibits are open that evening for guests to enjoy. The event also features live music, games and activities.

When is Summer Ale Festival?

SAF will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2017, 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Taps will close at 10:00 p.m.
VIP ticketholders may enter beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Where is Summer Ale Festival?

SAF is held at the Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 West Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

Who can attend Summer Ale Festival?

Anyone 21 years or older may purchase a ticket to attend. Valid photo I.D. must be presented upon entry. Children will not be permitted to enter the Zoo during SAF.

I have a Non Drinker ticket. Can I enter at 6:00 p.m. with my friends who have VIP tickets?

Yes, Non Drinkers can enter early if accompanied by a VIP ticketholder.

What happens if it rains?

SAF is a rain or shine event and will still take place in the event of rain. For this reason, all tickets are non-refundable; guests should plan accordingly for inclement weather.

How do I get to and from the Summer Ale Festival?

SAF attendees are encouraged to use the Zoo’s free shuttle service to and from 30th & Market Street. Shuttle service begins at 5:15 p.m. and runs continuously throughout the night. The last shuttle will depart the Zoo at 10:30 p.m.

Are you serving any other types of alcohol?

SAF vendors will primarily serve beer and there will be a limited number of ciders available.

I am having ticketing issues (purchasing, printing, processing, etc.). Who should I speak with?

Additional Things to Know:

  • Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door. This event is limited to those 21 years of age or older and children will not be permitted. Valid ID required.
  • You must print your tickets prior to arrival. Mobile tickets will not be accepted. If you need your tickets resent to you, please contact ticketing.zoomembership@phillyzoo.org
  • Don’t forget your ID. Valid photo ID must be presented with your ticket in order to enter the event. ID. Anyone under the age of 21 will not be permitted into the event. This applies to Non Drinker ticketholders as well.
  • All Festival guests should enter through the Zoo’s Main Entrance. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. for VIP’s and accompanying Non Drinkers and 7:00 p.m. for General Admission.
  • Bags may be subject to inspection upon entry. To ensure a speedy entrance, bags should be no larger than 16" x 16" x 8".
  • At check in, Non Drinkers will be briefly separated from their parties and asked to enter through the gate adjacent to the entrance for drinking guests.
  • Parking is located in the Zoo Garage at 35th & Girard Avenue. For directions, click here.
  • Shuttle service will run from 30th Street Station to the Zoo, beginning at 5:15 p.m. The shuttle will pick up and drop off Festival guests at the southwest corner of 30th & Market. The last shuttle of the evening will depart from the Zoo at 10:30 p.m.
  • Food from Philadelphia’s top mobile food vendors will be available for purchase. Vendors accept cash or credit card and multiple ATMs are available throughout the Zoo.
  • The fun doesn’t stop with thirst-quenching brews and Philly’s best bites, look out for the live music, DJ dance parties, yard games and funky photo ops!
  • Be sure to tag the Zoo in all of your social media posts #summeralefest #phillyzoo
  • And let’s not forget the best part of the night – the animals. Zoo exhibits will be open for the Festival, with some closing earlier than other for critters with early bedtimes. Keeper demonstrations and animal meet ‘n’ greets will take place throughout the night as well. Ticketholders will receive an electronic copy of the event map later this week. Be sure to download it to your phone for easy viewing on the night of the event.
  •  There will be no re-entry to this event. Please plan accordingly.

The provision of free alcohol at the Summer Ale Festival is not contingent on a ticket purchase or charitable donation to the Zoo.
