India: In Search of the Elusive Tiger
Mystical and spiritual, chaotic and confounding, India overflows with riches. The country’s history, sights, architecture, art, and wildlife beckon travelers from all over the world. Explore landscapes of vibrant colors and textures, experience a mosaic of culture, and have up-close encounters with unique wildlife. This is India as you’ve never imagined—and will never forget!
There is an abundance of wildlife on the Indian sub-continent. The tour will visit four wildlife parks of different habitat types: Kanha National Park (Central India’s largest park), Bandhavgarh National Park, Ranthambore National Park, and Keoladeo Ghana National Park (formerly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, the world’s largest heronry and a World Heritage Site). There will be numerous game drives within the parks to search for the elusive tiger as well as viewing a variety of other wildlife, including over 1300 species of birds (such as the sarus crane, gray-headed fish eagle, hornbills, etc.), gazelles, nilgai, wild boar, jackal, muntjak, sambar deer, spotted deer, blackbuck, sloth bear, marsh crocodile, cobra, mongoose, spotted leopard, rhesus macaque, black-faced langur, and more.
The tour also visits Delhi, Agra, the Taj Mahal, the palaces and forts of Jaipur, and the shrines and temples of Varanasi (the holiest city for Hindus). There will also be an opportunity to ride elephants in Jaipur and visit Wildlife SOS Research and Conservation Center, a sloth bear research/rescue facility.
The trip includes the services of an expert English-speaking tour guide. There is an optional post-tour extension to Nepal and Chitwain National Park..
