11/25/2015 : Update from Gerry: Living Classrooms

Spent the day watching kids explore a rainforest where orangutans live — saw plenty of nests but no red apes (although 36 kids make a lot of noise even trying to be quiet.) This field trip was organized by Yayasan IR orangutan center (International Animal Rescue) as part of their ongoing education outreach to schools and communities, in partnership with PK KAL oil palm plantation education staff.

11/10/2015 : Fires in Indonesia Claim Critical Orangutan Habitat

This year, Orangutan Awareness Week arrives as long awaited rains begin to douse the fires that have been raging across orangutan habitat in Kalimantan and Sumatra since late June. People and wildlife alike are facing significant health risks as the smoke haze resulting from the destruction of more than 4.2 million acres of forest and peatlands pollutes the Indonesian air and wafts into neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Southern Thailand, and Vietnam.
