Meet Dr. Kendra

In an innovative international veterinary partnership, Philadelphia Zoo is collaborating with International Animal Rescue’s (IAR) orangutan rescue and rehabilitation center near Ketapang, Indonesian Borneo, and University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School (Penn Vet) to train Dr. Kendra Baker in primate medicine.  After a six-month internship at Philadelphia Zoo and Penn Vet, in July Dr. Baker will move to Borneo and spend a year at the rescue and rehabilitation center caring for orphaned and ill orangutans, with the goal of eventually returning them to a safe forest in Indonesia.

This partnership is made possible through the generous support of Dee and Nicholas Adams, global advocates for wildlife.
