Duties
The Marketing and Communications Director is responsible for coordinating the top-line messages for the Zoo through managing and tracking marketing and promotions efforts in support of the organization’s Mission and Values. The Marketing and Communications Director will work closely with the Communications Manager and Web Marketing Coordinator while reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Help to develop and coordinate the annual marketing plan and the strategies, tactics and resources necessary to achieve the organization’s goals alongside the Chief Marketing Officer.
- Lead in the development and implementation of a unified, effective marketing and promotions process to expand the Zoo’s audience base, and increase visitation and revenue.
- Serve as the key author for marketing and communications publications and messages.
- Assist in the development of the advertising and promotions budget; track and report regularly on status.
- Work with the Chief Marketing Officer and Communications Manager to oversee all media communications ensuring accuracy and positive recognition of the Zoo, and further develop the Zoo’s presence in the media.
- Manage external and internal communications through a variety of media including TV, radio, electronic media, print, lifestyle media, and various events.
- Oversee the development and execution of events and programs geared toward the Zoo’s general visiting audience.
- Establish organizational roles and responsibilities to support promotion and marketing. Foster an organization-wide promotional sensibility.
- Provide marketing skills and expertise to the Zoo by managing a marketing team capable of carrying out the necessary marketing strategies and tactics.
- Leads and participates in committees and task forces as required.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications or related field and a minimum of 5 years management level experience developing and marketing programs preferably for a ticketed attraction venue.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing projects, budgets, and strategic campaigns.
- Broad experience and knowledge of paid visitation, membership, and group sales programs.
- Experience and working knowledge of advertising, marketing, and promotions functions.
- Excellent creative and objective writing skills with an emphasis on media relations and marketing materials.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Demonstrated verbal and creative thinking skills with an emphasis on group dynamics and customer relations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships with peers and subordinates; superior ability to work with diverse personalities and foster a customer service oriented team; tactful; flexible.
Availability
Ability to work a flexible work schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, and evenings.
