The Philadelphia Zoo has created special policies for the online collection, use, and disclosure of information from children under 13 years of age ("children" or "child"). The purpose of this Children's Privacy Policy is to describe what types of personal information we collect from children, the purposes for which we use the information and what rights you have regarding this personal information. This Children's Privacy Policy applies only to our information collection and use for visitors under the age of 13. Our General Privacy Policy describes our information collection, use, and disclosure practices for visitors ages 13 and over.

Information Collection
Non-Personal Information
Certain non-personal information about site visits is recorded by the standard operation of the Internet servers on which this website is hosted. The non-personal information that we collect is as follows:

Cookies
As a method of tracking the use of our website and to enable certain technical operations, the Philadelphia Zoo utilizes the web technology known as cookies. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site.

Log Files
Like many standard website servers, our web servers use log files. Log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp and number of clicks. Log files are used to analyze trends, administer the site, track aggregated users' movement and gather broad demographic information. IP addresses, etc. are not linked to personally identifiable information.

Personal Information Collected
We request the children's birth date to determine if the child is under 13. We may collect e-mail addresses and pictures from children to send them files relating to activities they participated in, such as games, and to allow them to submit a request for membership in Philadelphia Zoo's Kids Club. This information will not be posted or published, sold or rented to any third parties and will not be permanently saved by the Philadelphia Zoo. We do not make a child's participation in activities contingent on that child's disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in that activity.

Children may also submit their e-mail address to pose a question to the Philadelphia Zoo.

Use Of Information
We may use children's personal information in three general ways:

On-Site Electronic Activities and Games
We may collect children's e-mail addresses and/or take a picture of the child as part of a Philadelphia Zoo activity or game. The e-mail address and the picture are stored temporarily for a time period sufficient to send the e-mail and picture to the child. The e-mail address and picture are used only to send the e-mail and picture to the child and are deleted from our system once the e-mail is successfully sent.

Kids Club Membership
Children may request membership in the Kids Club. To fulfill such requests, information requested from the child is limited to the child's e-mail address and the parent's first name and e-mail address. Upon receiving the child's request for membership, the Philadelphia Zoo sends an e-mail to the parent informing them of their child's request for membership and directing the parent to a link where they can securely submit the child's personal information for membership in the Kids Club. The child's e-mail address is used only to send an e-mail to the parent and is deleted from our system once a e-mail is successfully sent to the parent. Because we respect the privacy of children, a child's request for membership will not be honored. Membership in the Kids Club can only be completed by a parent. Only after a parent completes the Kids Club membership for the child will the Philadelphia Zoo save and use the child's personally identifiable information for communication with the child.

Children's E-mail Requests
Children may also submit their e-mail address to request information or submit questions to the Philadelphia Zoo. The Philadelphia Zoo uses the e-mail address to respond to a one-time request from a child. The child's e-mail address is deleted from our system once our response to the e-mail is successfully sent.

Disclosure of Information
We do not share children's personal information with anyone other than those who provide support for the internal operations of the Web site and our agents (e.g., contractors who provide fulfillment services or technical support to the Web site).

When necessary, however, will we transfer or otherwise disclose personal information in response to judicial process, to comply with legal requirements, and, as permitted under provisions of law, to provide information to law enforcement agencies or in connection with an investigation on a matter related to public safety.

Parental Review
Parents can review the information that we have collected from their children, prevent the further use or maintenance of such information, or direct the deletion of their children's personal information by calling us at the telephone number provided below or e-mailing us at the below address.

Security of Information
The Philadelphia Zoo's website takes precautions to secure all personally identifiable information by means of physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards.

Third Party Websites
To the extent that any of the third-party sites accessible through this website have different privacy practices from those stated in this policy, those third-party privacy practices govern the collection and use of information provided when visiting those sites. The Philadelphia Zoo is not responsible for the policies, content, and practices of other web sites.

Changes to This Privacy Statement
On occasion, it may be necessary for us to change the terms of the Children's Privacy Policy. We will do so by posting updated text on this site, and your continued use constitutes acceptance of those changes. To ensure that you are aware of current privacy practices, we recommend that you check this site periodically. We will not materially change how we handle previously collected information without providing notice and an opportunity to choose how we use that information.
