Over 19,000 guests came out to help wish America’s First Zoo a Happy 150th Birthday, many of who donated hundreds of pounds of food and enrichment items for the Zoo’s over 1,300 rare and endangered animals. The Zoo’s weekend activities featured live animal encounters, puppet shows, Victorian games and Storytellers dressed in Victorian garb. Sesquicentennial Weekend was the Zoo’s kick-off to a year’s worth of special activities, including the opening of the Zoo’s new McNeil Avian Center on May 30.
