Home > Volunteer > High School Students > High School Internship

Applications are due by April 1, 2012.

The High School Internship is designed to give high school students in their senior or junior
year practical experience in environmental education and the opportunity to gain a broad background of the Zoo community and how it operates.

DUTIES: Interns will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the Zoo’s everyday operations while providing an educational experience to our guests. Please note that interns will not handle animals.

REQUIREMENTS: This internship is open to high school seniors or juniors who need to complete a graduation project or community service hours. Students must be sponsored by their school and be able to complete a minimum of 80 hours in the program. Students must be available for a minimum of 4 hours per shift during Zoo operating hours.

Since this program is highly interactive with guests, participants must have good presentations skills and be able to represent the Zoo as an educator. This program can be highly competitive therefore all applicants are subject to an interview before being selected as an intern. The interview process includes preparing a brief presentation.

Please note that all volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Teen applicants must submit a signed volunteer application as well as two completed Recommendation Forms from adults not related to you and a copy of your last report card. Download the Recommendation Form here. Incomplete applications will be returned. Please mail application packets to:
