Duties

Support the Development Department of America’s First Zoo by contributing to the management, stewardship and cultivation of upper level members and prospects. Interns will develop and enhance their communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills as well as learn how to work within a large, reputable, non-profit institution.
  • Assist with direct mailings, including benefit fulfillment and renewal letters.
  • Aid in prospect research and reporting as assigned.
  • Updating and editing of donor records.
  • Investigate past renewal rates and recommend improvement of retention of upper level members.
  • Identify particular demographics of the group and propose methods of acquiring new members.
  • Communicate with donors and committee members and take benefit fulfillment inquiries.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have completed 30 college credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recent graduates may be considered.
  • Majors in communications, business administration and marketing or a related field are preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate, with knowledge of both Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Enthusiastic "people" person with outstanding customer service skills.
  • A desire to pursue a career in development (fundraising), research or data management is a plus, but not mandatory.

Availability

A minimum of a 10 week commitment and a total of 120 hours of service are required.  Scheduling is flexible depending on applicant's schedule. Zoo office hours are 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday and occasional nights and weekends as events require. The internship is offered year-round.
