Human Resources Programming Intern

Duties

The Human Resources Programming Intern plays an integral role in assisting with the coordination and implementation of Human Resources programming for Philadelphia Zoo employees and volunteers. Programming includes recognition events and health and wellness programming.

We are looking for a hard-working intern that desires hands-on experience in event planning and program implementation. The applicant must be dependable, detail-oriented and high-energy. The desired background experience includes at least a junior level college education, interest or involvement in any of the following areas: event planning, human resources and/or project management.

This position will include opportunities to learn general Human Resources and volunteer management responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Create and submit Event Plans and Facility Requests for internal events
• Develop and distribute programming communication
• Maintain necessary logs and spreadsheets for programming
• Attend weekly logistics meetings
• Communicating with employees, volunteers, caterers, vendors etc
• Event setup and execution
• Event evaluation and follow up

Requirements

• Ability to work independently, quickly and under pressure (essential).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (essential).
• Interest in the coordination, planning, and support of events, daily operational and administrative functions
• Detail oriented thinking
• Excellent customer service skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet searches
• Experience with graphic design/Microsoft Publisher desired
• Familiarity and enthusiasm for event management
• Junior level college education
• Preferred majors and/or course work include Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Non-Profit Management, Communications
• Ability to balance multiple responsibilities (essential)
• Excellent written communication skills (essential)
• Be able to work a flexible schedule and attend events outside of normal work week
• No allergies related to plants or animals which would interfere with your ability to work
• Other duties as assigned

Availability

• Week day availability with occasional weekend/evening requirements
• Must be available Tuesday and Thursday afternoons
• This position requires between 12 – 20 hours per week
• This internship is available in the spring and summer semesters

All interns are required to complete a PA State Criminal Background Check Child and PA Abuse Clearance prior to beginning work at the Philadelphia Zoo. Interns whose permanent residence is outside Pennsylvania also need to complete an FBI clearance including fingerprinting.
