America's First Zoo
The Philadelphia Zoo is celebrating a significant birthday in 2009.  March 21, 2009 will mark the 150th anniversary of our charter as America’s First Zoo.  We have many exciting events planned to celebrate this historical event, including awarding 15 grants, each worth up to $1,500 for local conservation projects.

Your Zoo has a strong commitment to conservation efforts around the world as well as providing support for critical conservation work that is going on right in our own backyard and neighborhoods.  Eligible programs should focus on individual or group efforts that address wildlife and/or environmental protection, sustainability, greening initiatives, open space, conservation education or environmental awareness. Check out the Grants for Wildlife section of our website, www.philadelphiazoo.org under the Conservation page.  Grant requests should be submitted by January 31, 2009.  Look for more exciting events related to our 150th anniversary as well as information about the opening in 2009 of our newest exhibit, the incredible McNeil Avian Center.

I look forward to our continuing dialogue – in the Zoo gardens and online at dewan.vik@phillyzoo.org.
