Sing about Bugs! Use this silly song to learn about bug bodies and build your own edible insects. These activities were a hit this summer with our (3-year-old) Critter Campers and (4-5-year-old) Kinder Zoo campers.  To build connections, we combine songs and activities with observation of real bugs and some of our favorite bug books.

The Very Clumsy Click Beetle; The Very Lonely Firefly; or The Very Quiet Cricket   by Eric Carle

Diary of a Fly or Diary of a Spider (whose best friends are Worm and Fly)  by Doreen Cronin  (Note: we also love Cronin's Diary of a Worm, but we have different songs for him!)

Bugs for Lunch  by Margery Facklam

Children use colors and shapes to build Toby the Turtle's shell.  Teachers Notes outline a lesson plan to connect the activity to senses or colors, shapes and textures. Try these with of some of our favorite books that feature turtles or tortoises.

The amazing story of Owen and Mzee: a True Story of a Remarkable Friendship by Isabella Hatkoff, Craig Hatkoff, Dr. Paula Kahumbu  and Peter Greste

Yertle the Turtle  by Dr. Seuss

In the Small Small Pond  by Denise Fleming
