Birds of Prey

A bird of prey or raptor is a bird that hunts for food primarily using its talons. They display a characteristic curved tip to their beak and have superb vision.  Diurnal birds of prey belong to the orders Accipitriformes and Falconiformes.

Andean condor
Andean condor
Having one of the largest wingspans of any bird allows the Andean condor to soar great distances each day in search of food.

Northern bald eagle
Northern bald eagle
The eagle's wing is light in weight but incredibly strong. They have powerful feet, sharp talons and spiny pads on the bottoms of their talons to snatch and grasp prey.

Turkey vulture
Turkey vulture
This new world vulture can often be seen circling overhead near highways. You can see groups of them frequently spiralling up into the sky in small groups called “kettles”.
