Check out the newest additions at Carnivore Kingdom - giant otter pups! Born June 21
st to Banjo and Nina, these four giant otter pups are enjoying their time with big sisters, Paru and Tocantins at the Zoo’s Carnivore Kingdom. Giant otters are a highly endangered species because of habitat destruction and water pollution. The Philadelphia Zoo is the first and only zoo in the United States to successfully breed giant otters.
The Zoo is welcoming two new residents to the Pachyderm House –
Poitou donkeys Nike and Periwinkle. The donkeys are different than what you might think. Poitous stand at over six feet tall and are easily identifiable by their long dreadlocked coats. With only 400 hundred left in the world, Poitous and many other domestic breeds are facing extinction.
