The Solitude, an elegant manor house located in the middle of the Zoo, is turning 225 this year. In recognition, The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has dedicated a historical marker to celebrate this momentous occasion. Built in 1784 by John Penn, grandson of William Penn, The Solitude has played an integral role in the Zoo’s history, as well as the history of Philadelphia.
The Zoo offer tours of The Solitude two days a week from October 20 until the end of the year.
