First-ival Celebration

Celebrate America’s First Zoo during our First-ival!

On March 21, 1859, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania approved and signed the non-profit incorporation charter for the Zoological Society of Philadelphia. Fifteen years later, Philadelphia Zoo hosted its grand opening on July 1, 1874. Since then, America’s first Zoo has been a place to celebrate the wonder of wildlife.

Philadelphia Zoo is hosting its First-ival Celebration as a part of the Philadelphia Historic District 250th Committee’s celebration of the 52 Weeks of First for America 250 on Saturday, August 8. From 11 AM to 1 PM, enjoy family-friendly activities and games, live entertainment, ambassador animal meet-and-greets, giveaways and selfie stations.
